SuperSeries and the Swedish National Television (SVT)
2003-09-08

As the headline says, SuperSeries and the Swedish Television has concluded an agreement regarding televised bowling. This is something new for Sweden and quite unique. The agreement states, that Swedish Television broadcasts all final stages of the seven stops in Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark. All final stages are on a sunday and the broadcasting starts live at 3 pm on SVT24, which is a digital channel and on Sportsöndag on SVT1 or SVT2, which have nationwide coverage. The grand final in Jönköping during easter 2004, Swedish Television will send the final stage live on SVT1 or SVT2, and can be viewed all over Sweden in every household. The motive for Swedish Television to do this is to give bowling more recognition and acknowledge as a sport and to show televised entertainment. They feel this to be within their responsibility as a public service company. Last year, 3 million individuals paid at least one visit to a bowling alley. That makes bowling one of the most popular sports and recreational activities in the country. We can see the same development all over Scandinavia. SuperSeries is also at present in negotiations with the other public service companies in the Nordic countries, such as NRK in Norway, YLE in Finland and DK in Denmark, looking to secure a similar deal. We see this as a great opportunity to put bowling on the map and to make the TV production as professional as possible. We want to make great events not only for the players but also for the viewers.
