A good choice of parents.
2006-08-15

The best way to be successful in bowling is to start with a good choice of parents. Else you have to spend some more time in the practice area and some more time as a delivery boy to afford all the expensive bowling balls in the pro shop.

Marcus Berndt made an excellent pick-up when he chooses Yvonne and Ernst Berndt as parents. Yvonne and Ernst both won the All Event title in the European Championship in Frankfurt 1981. And for several years the father Ernst has been one of Sweden’s most experienced ball drillers. As a result of all this Marcus is one of the most talent young bowling players in Sweden today.

In the Dream 17-squad in the Olympia Tournament he out classed excellent players like Petter Hansen of Norway and Or Aviram of Israel with a score of 1424. He finished his early qualifying attempt with 268 and 279 and made a result good as anything for a final position in Top 8 in the qualifying rounds in Helsingborg.

- The lanes changed a lot after two games and I did some movements in the starting point of my approach. I did a guess which seemed to be a qualified one, said Marcus after his great finish in the squad.

The 17-year old Marcus, who participated in the World Championship, gets a slight revenge for his poor performances in Berlin.

- It was very rough conditions down there, high temperature and humidity in the Bowling Centre. And when we realized that we needed ancient balls to get successful on the short oil it was too late to get any of those. The Asian players compete every time on short/long patterns during their season and had a big advance for the moment by knowing what to use on the short oil, tells Marcus.

But every problem has a solution. Back home Marcus probably find the two winning bowling balls of Yvonne and Ernst from 1981 (they only used one ball during tournaments at that time). So before next Championship he just has to plug and drill the balls of the Champions from 1981 and get successful in the next big World tournament.

But first he will appear in the final in Olympia Tournament on Sunday.

- My goal is the TV final. But I will be pleased if I could beat my best results thus far in a big tournament (11th in Aalborg in May).
